- Sunday, September 22 – Convocation and Dean’s BBQ
Caltech's Annual Convocation is a formal welcome and introduction to the Institute for new students and postdoctoral scholars. Immediately following Convocation, please plan to join the Graduate Studies Office for a BBQ dinner hosted by the Graduate Dean, Doug Rees.
- Monday, September 23 – Options Day (All day)
Options Day is devoted to giving new students an opportunity to learn the specific procedures, policies, etc. of their degree options by connecting students to the faculty and staff within their option. Options are divided into 6 divisions: Biology and Biological Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Engineering and Applied Science, Geological and Planetary Sciences, the Humanities and Social Sciences, and Physics, Mathematics, and Astronomy. Please check with your individual options regarding the schedule for Options Day.
- Tuesday, September 24 – General Orientation: Campus Life and Policies (8am-5pm)- Beckman Auditorium
General Orientation provides an overview of Caltech resources and policies. The day is comprised of presentations, student and faculty panels, a Resource Fair, and workshops that will provide a foundation for students to become acquainted with Caltech.
- Wednesday, September 25 – Teaching Conference (10am-4pm)
Hosted by The Center for Teaching, Learning & Outreach, the Annual Teaching Conference is designed for new graduate students/teaching assistants and includes sessions on topics vital to being an instructor, such as: lesson planning, innovative technology, inclusive teaching, careers in teaching, and student motivation.
